Ever think the look of a crumpled disposable plastic cup has its own, special charm? If not, rethink.
Revol France is making porcelain cups that imitate crushed plastic cups, and the line has achieved commercial success in Europe, according to Jonathan Pearson, vice president of marketing and sales at Revol USA LLC.
The company has sold 6 million units to McDonald's in France all the way up to high-end restaurants, he said at the International Home + Housewares Show, held March 14-16 in Chicago. The product appeals to a range of customers with different colors and styles, he added.
Because of the product's simplicity, he said, everybody can relate to it, which leads to impulse buys. The company hopes to expand sales in the U.S.
Unlike real disposable plastic cups, the porcelain cups are thermal-shock-resistant and impact-resistant. They are also oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe.
