Silgan Plastics Corp. will spend $5.5 million on machinery upgrades to its blow molding plant in Ligonier.
According to a March 9 story on fwdailynews.com a Fort Wayne, Ind., online news source equipment will come from the Silgan plant in Port Clinton, Ohio. Silgan said in February that the Port Clinton plant will be idled by the third quarter of 2010. About 24 new jobs will be created at the Ligonier factory.
Ligonier plant manager Bob Rose said Silgan is seeking a tax abatement from Ligonier City Council, according to the story. Silgan officials were unavailable for comment. The firm's Web site lists high density polyethylene spray bottles among the plant's products.
Chesterfield, Mo.-based Silgan ranked No. 8 in Plastics News' recent survey of North American blow molders, with related sales of $651.9 million.
Silgan Plastics is an operating company of Silgan Holdings, a packaging company with 2009 total sales of $3.1 billion. The parent company has a total of 66 manufacturing plants.
