Kelly Co. Inc., an injection molding and structural foam company, is under new ownership, but has signed a long-term lease to remain at its current site.
J.J. Kelly announced in a news release that the company has been sold to Alliance Manufacturing Corp. of Red Hook, N.Y.
Kelly primarily has served the paint applicator, hardware and flooring industries with an emphasis on specialty design of hand tools. It has also manufactured sporting goods such as jump-rope handles, bocce balls and croquet sets.
The company has worked on design and prototypes as well.
New President and CEO Mick Whitman said the plan is to continue serving the firm's current customer base while growing into new markets and processes.
Our team at Alliance has over 100 years of combined experience in the injection molding business, which we will use to expand the current Kelly business, Whitman said in the release.
He said that experienced Kelly employees will be retained and that he expects a seamless transition.
Alliance will retain the Kelly Co. name. Kelly started in 1950 as F.R. Schreiter Co. It was renamed Clinton Plastics Inc. by new management in 1961. In 1982, J.J. Kelly purchased the assets and changed the name to Kelly Co.
Kelly said he is retiring after 39 years in the business, but will be available on a consulting basis.
