PolyOne Corp. featured technology at Chinaplas that allows extrusion blow molders to make coextruded high density polyethylene bottles layered with thermoplastic elastomers.
PolyOne's GLS TPE business unveiled the technology, which it co-developed with Bonn, Germany-based Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH.
Nobody has done this before. It allows you to add a tactile layer without a separate coating process, said GLS global marketing director Rick Noller.
The technology can be used with traditional or recycled HDPE and allows designers to change the feel and grip of their product within one process.
At the Shanghai show, held April 19-22, GLS and parent PolyOne of Avon Lake, Ohio, focused on products to help customers meet global regulations and stay environmentally friendly.
PolyOne showed a range of products for medical applications, in particular, Noller said. At last year's Chinaplas, GLS introduced its Versaflex line for medical tubing and was surprised by the response, Noller said.
Health care in general is definitely recession-resistant and we're seeing a growing market in Asia and China, he said.
