Attendance at Chinaplas in Shanghai reached 81,435 this year, a 17.5 percent jump from last year's total.
And that's despite volcano-related travel disruptions, which held down attendance from Europe, according to show organizer Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., which is based in Hong Kong.
Measured by attendance, Chinaplas now appears to be the No. 2 global plastics trade show, surpassing North America's NPE, while the K shows apparently still rank No. 1 by a convincing lead.
Though precise attendance comparisons are difficult because show organizers count visitors differently attendance at NPE2009 was down sharply during the global recession to about 44,000. The K trade shows, held every three years in Germany, drew about 242,000 visitors to Dusseldorf in 2007.
