MUTTENZ, SWITZERLAND (June 4, 11:55 a.m. ET) Color specialist Clariant International Ltd. will unveil a new brand of medical and pharmaceutical masterabatches and compounds at this year's K show in Germany.
Spokesman Steve Duckworth said the launch will be of a new service brand which, irrespective of polymer type, will provide customers with a complete package of masterbatches or compounds to color medical products.
Duckworth says the medical sector, although small, is very important to the Clariant business.
“Average industry growth worldwide has been around 9 percent over the last 10 years,” he told European Plastics News. “Clariant's medical growth has been several percentage points above that, so it is clearly a very important industry for us.”
In April, Muttenz-based Clariant achieved ISO 13485 accreditation for plants in Asia and Europe which make masterbatches for the medical sector. It hopes to gain the same accreditation for its plant in the United States by the third quarter this year.
Duckworth says that although the accreditation is not a must-have for raw material suppliers, it however “reinforces the focus of our facilities and systems that already govern production.”
