Dow's plasticizers ideal for wire, cable
Dow Chemical Co. has introduced a family of bio-based, phthalate-free plasticizers for wire and cable.
Dow Ecolibrium products are made from nearly 100 percent renewable resources, according to the firm's Dow wire and cable business unit. They can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40 percent if used instead of traditional plasticizers, according to the Houston-based unit.
The field trials demonstrated that the new plasticizers exhibit the same performance and feel as incumbent PVC plasticizers while meeting all regulatory requirements for flame resistance, said Jonathan Penrice, Dow wire and able global marketing director. They provide a sustainability option to wire and cable producers and their customers, he said.

Glow Putty available for rotomolded parts
Rotational molders can make a specific part of a product glow in the dark with Chroma Corp.'s Glow Putty.
Molders can use the light-stable photoluminescent putty to highlight areas without making the whole part photoluminescent, thus saving about 80 percent of costs. The glow effect is durable because it is molded into the part. The glow effect lasts for 29 hours.
Our new Glow Putty product enables molders to offer enhanced visibility and safety properties in one step as part of standard rotational process, said Mike Masterson, Chroma senior technical engineer.
Chroma is based in McHenry, Ill.
