Dow Chemical Co. has introduced a family of bio-based, phthalate-free plasticizers for wire and cable.
Dow Ecolibrium products are made from nearly 100 percent renewable resources, according to the firm's Dow wire and cable business unit. They can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40 percent if used instead of traditional plasticizers, according to the Houston-based unit.
“The field trials demonstrated that the new plasticizers exhibit the same performance and feel as incumbent PVC plasticizers while meeting all regulatory requirements for flame resistance,” said Jonathan Penrice, Dow wire and able global marketing director. They provide a sustainability option to wire and cable producers and their customers, he said.
