Microplastics Inc. has expanded its vertical molding capacity with an Engel US 650/150 vertical machine with a horizontal injection unit.
Microplastics began operating the machine April 1, said Andrew Schaus, vice president of operations, in a May 25 telephone interview. It has been molding air-bag sensors.
We received an increase in production on a current job that we have, he said.
According to Engel, the system features a double smart pump that allows parallel machine movements at the injection and handling stations.
Microplastics has 11 vertical and three horizontal presses, producing insert-molded components for the automotive, computer, appliance, telecommunications, electronics and medical industries.
Schaus said the new press design allows for higher clamping tonnage while minimizing the machine footprint.
Microplastics currently operates in a 50,000-square-foot facility in St. Charles. It has the acreage to expand to 110,000 square feet.
