Zwolle, Netherlands-based Wavin NV retains its leading place in the European pipe production market despite the negative impact of the global downturn, according to the latest sector analysis from European Plastics News.
The global downturn may have hit Wavin pretty hard 2009 sales were down by 27 percent over the previous year but the company remains the leading producer of plastics pipe in Europe, according to the first EPN Plastics Pipe and Profile Producers Data Report.
Wavin's European sales of 1.16 billion euros ($1.43 billion) put it a long way ahead of its nearest rival in the European pipe market Brussels-based Aliaxis SA with European sales estimated at 776 million euros ($953 million).
Aliaxis edges Neudorf, Austria-headquartered Pipelife International GmbH into third place in terms of European pipe sales, according to EPN estimates.
Fourth place in the ranking goes to Troisdorf, Germany-headquartered plastics window profile producer Profine International Profile Group GmbH, with estimated European sales of 520 million euros ($639 million). Brussels-based Tessenderlo Group completes the top five with sales in Europe estimated at 470 million euros ($577 million).
Together, the top five pipe and profile producers represent a European sales value of more than 3.5 billion euros ($4.3 billion).
Global pipe and profile sales for the same five companies amount to a combined value of 4.7 billion euros ($5.78 billion), lead by Aliaxis with estimated global pipe sales of 1.65 billion euros ($2.03 billion).
The EPN Plastic Pipe & Profile Producers 2010 Data Report contains detailed sales data for the top 30 producers of plastics pipes and profiles across the continent, including global and European sales figures.
The 30 companies featured in the report represent combined European pipe and profile sales worth more than 8.6 billion euros. Aside from sales data, each entry is supported with key contact information together with a short profile and summary of business activities.
