Owner Revolution Inc., an Adair, Iowa-based manufacturer of acrylic lottery dispensers, has started a subsidiary to produce other products, including point-of-purchase displays.
The new subsidiary, Schafer Solutions Inc., has plants in Adair and Atlantic, Iowa, and employs about 85.
The company's capabilities include rotational molding, injection molding and cold forming.
The goal of launching Schafer Solutions was to expand Owner's offering from the lottery business to non-lottery related products, said Bud Karachiwala, business manager of Schafer Solutions, in a June 18 telephone interview.
Karachiwala said the company focuses on two main issues: food safety and the issue of public health with regard to retail products; and a strong commitment for environmental sustainability.
He reiterated the company's desire to address the concern over plastics that exists in the public consciousness.
The company can incorporate the use of wood and metal in its designs, depending on customer needs. Karachiwala said a customer recently asked for a wooden base on a new bagel dispenser Schafer had designed, one that would improve food safety by not allowing customers to touch the food directly.
Schafer Solutions found a plastic that looked like wood and actually gave off the aroma of coffee, allowing the company to suggest a new product made with plastic, Karachiwala said.
