Plastics News is a finalist for a national Azbee Award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors for best on-site trade show coverage. ASBPE announced its award finalists June 22. The award will honor the publication's show dailies from NPE2009 in Chicago.
ASBPE typically gives out gold, silver and bronze awards. The group will announce all the results, including the award for the show dailies, on July 19. Plastics News previously won a national gold Azbee award for its NPE 2000 show dailies.
Additionally, Plastics News recently won several honors in the annual Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards, organized by the Press Club of Cleveland. The contest which drew more than 800 entries covers editorial, graphic and photographic excellence and is open to trade and business press, daily and non-daily newspapers, radio and broadcast media.
Plastics News won three awards in this competition:
* In the Magazine Web Site Design category, PlasticsNews.com won a first-place award, with judges commenting: Clean design, easy to navigate. The award was given to the entire Plastics News staff.
* In the Trade Publications Trade Report category, Plastics News took second place for its coverage of the NPE show moving to Orlando. The award was given to the Plastics News staff. Reporters on the project included Bill Bregar, Mike Verespej, Steve Toloken, Nina Ying Sun and Don Loepp.
The judges wrote: Diligent, attentive beat reporting with a significant conclusion. It supplied a major story and examined the loss Chicago absorbed economically in a way no other outlet there may have been able to.
* In the New Media Blogs category, Nina Ying Sun took second place for her China Blog. The judges wrote: Well-written and insightful, analytical, well-read by the audience, lots of responses!
