Plastics News long has recognized excellence in plastics processing with our highly regarded Processor of the Year Award. We now are introducing three additional honors the Plastics News Excellence Awards for exemplary performance by processors in the areas of customer relations, employee relations, and industry/public service.
We will present the three new category awards at the next Plastics News Executive Forum, set for March 6-9, 2011, at the JW Marriott Las Vegas in Summerlin, Nev. The presentation will take place at the same gala reception where we celebrate the finalists and reveal the winner of our 15th Processor of the Year Award, which has the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. trade association as its new, exclusive sponsor.
Customer relations, employee relations and industry/public service are three of the seven criteria we already use to assess the processor of the year. Members of PN's editorial staff do the judging. Now, in addition to selecting the overall Processor of the Year, the judges also separately will evaluate, from among the same crop of nominees, outstanding achievements in those three areas.
Our POY award is recognized as the benchmark of overall operational and management excellence among North American plastics processing companies, said Robert Grace, editor, associate publisher and conference director. In the course of the judging each year, we often find that some companies truly excel in one category or another, but perhaps do not end up winning the overall award. We feel it's time to publicly recognize those companies' strong performances in these three other, very important categories.
How a company treats its employees can provide an underlying foundation for growth, performance and success, and directly impact the bottom line. Similarly, we wish to shine a bright light on those deserving firms that set the bar high for how they interact with customers, as well as with both their local communities and the industry at large.
Finalists for the Plastics News Excellence Awards will be invited to the Executive Forum and showcased there, so that they may network others in attendance and share some of the secrets to their success.
Meantime, we are pleased to announce that the SPI trade association in Washington has agreed to a three-year deal to sponsor our Processor of the Year Award, which remains the crown jewel of our industry honors.
As the voice of the industry, SPI is extremely proud to be sponsoring the premier award in our industry recognizing the best of the best of plastics processors, said SPI President and CEO Bill Carteaux. Over its 15-year history, several SPI member companies have won this prestigious award. We are excited to be a part of it ... and we look forward to recognizing those companies that are helping shape the future of our industry.
In addition to the expanded awards program in Las Vegas next March, we plan to celebrate the 15 years of the Processor of the Year by involving some of the winning alumni in the conference. Stay tuned for details.
