During these dog days of summer, energy use is prominent on many people's minds. If you're a plastics processor, Robin Kent thinks it should command your attention every day of the year.
Properly understanding and managing your energy companywide from your headquarters office to the factory floor can drop substantial dollars directly to your bottom line, often with a modest investment, said Kent, founder and managing director of U.K.-based consultancy Tangram Technology Ltd.
An Australian native with 36 years of plastics processing experience, Kent will provide the outline for how to control costs via smarter energy use in a free, four-part series of one-hour webcasts. Each takes place at 2 pm EDT, with the first online session, on July 13, offering insights into the manager's role, including how to ask the right questions and how to write an action plan. This will cover monitoring, internal benchmarking and budgeting, among other topics.
The second webcast, on July 20, will assess how to maximize savings from power supplies, motors, water cooling and drying polymers.
Episode No. 3 takes place Sept. 2, and will offer advice on how to create an action plan for saving energy when using injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, rotational molding, expanded polystyrene foam molding, extrusion blow molding and injection blow molding.
The final webcast, on Sept. 16 will cover best practices in operating your plant, including processing operations from setup to shutdown, improving process control, and facility lighting, heating and air conditioning.
