Agr International Inc.'s Process Pilot brings closed-loop control to blow molding, with a cost-effective solution that is not specific to any brand of blow molding machine, according to the company in
Robert Cowden, Agr's chief operating officer, and Fabio Chimetto, application group manager of Nestlé Waters Europe, discussed Process Pilot during Nova-Pack earlier this year.
Agr has installed Process Pilot systems on Sidel, Krones and KHS platforms. Used with Agr's PETWall Profiler, the Process Pilot continuously monitors bottle-material-distribution and automatically adjusts machine settings.
The system can make multiple parameter adjustments to a blow molding machine simultaneously Cowden said. It can pay for itself in about a year or less, he said.
Nestlé Waters uses Process Pilot in conjunction with the PETWall Profiler system on a KHS Combi machine making 43,500 1.5-liter San Pellegrino water bottles per hour. The system was installed in October.
Nestlé Waters has realized savings in a number of areas, including scrap reduction, operator training, quality-control costs and machine maintenance. Nestlé is using Process Pilot to keep tight control of the process window as part of a major lightweighting project for San Pellegrino.
