Polly Products LLC, a manufacturer of recycled plastic outdoor furniture, is more than doubling both its processing and fabrication capacities with the addition of a new computer numerically controlled machining center and a new 31/2-inch extruder.
The CNC is on site and the tech will have it running by the end of the week, Al Cockrum, vice president of sales and marketing of the Milliken, Mich., company, said Aug. 9. It will have greater speeds and more capabilities, more than doubling output.
In addition, he said Polly Products has ordered a 31/2-inch Max extruder from R&B Plastics Machinery LLC, with delivery scheduled for mid-October and startup set for early November. The company also is adding a new screw and barrel to an existing 31/2-inch extruder. The barrel will have a length-to-diameter ratio of 30-to-1.
The R&B extruder will be paired with a new molding system, increasing our capacity to produce recycled plastic lumber and shapes, said Cockrum. Overall, our molding capacity will have the potential to produce an additional 2 million pounds per year. Our lead times will be cut in half.
Considering the weak economy, our sales are outstanding, said Cockrum. We were profitable in 2009 and are showing a profit year to date. He did not, however, disclose any numbers on sales or profit.
Polly Products uses proprietary blends of recycled plastics to make benches, picnic tables, play sets, trash cans and Adirondack chairs primarily for parks, schools, hospitals and corporations. It manufactures all of its recycled plastic components.
