Apartments in Brooklyn are expensive -- I know from experience. But I wouldn't pay $500 a month to rent a plastic storage shed in the Greenpoint neighborhood. After all, look at the amenities that the house doesn't have -- heat, electricity, running water. And it's only 80 square feet. The story comes from Gawker.com, "Brooklyn's Cheapest Studio Apartment: A Rubber Play House that Rents for $500/Month." The blog based its story on a Craiglist ad for this "unique studio" apartment, a 8 foot-by-10 foot Rubbermaid-style shed with a pink door. (The ad, of course, was deleted after Gawker's millions of readers started clicking on it -- so check out their link for the original). Although the "studio" has no utilities, the ad noted that a renter would have 24-hour-access to a kitchen and bathroom. Gawker's Maureen O'Connor notes: "The saddest part is, some starving kid trying to pay off the debt from his $200,000 education is totally going to live in this glorified Tupperware container."
