Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. has launched a program called Encore, to help customers maximize the life of existing Husky injection molding equipment and restore it to like-new productivity.
Encore consists of structured upgrades, designed to increase energy efficiency and lengthen the useful life of Husky systems that are less than 20 years old. The program can include both tooling and machine upgrades.
Husky, of Bolton, Ontario, has broken down the program into two series:
* Maintenance Series. This is a series of related upgrades that can be done over time, targeting maintenance, spare parts, reliability and energy-management issues. Husky said this option is ideal for systems where performance improvements are not needed. It can be done in stages, with relatively low investments. Husky offers pre-engineered solutions for fast delivery and installation in the field.
* Performance Series. Husky offers a more complete, customizable program to improve existing equipment by using new technology. Customized programs provide upgrades that are flexible, based on the exact condition of the machine and the specific application. Husky said this series can significantly improve performance, giving faster cycle times, better energy utilization and improved reliability.
There are thousands of Husky systems in the field that could benefit from Encore, said Jeff MacDonald, Husky's vice president of marketing. In some cases, it is more appropriate to implement new injection molding equipment and technology, while in other cases, upgrading existing assets is more effective.
Husky gave an example of how Encore improved performance on a 17-year-old Husky preform injection molding system at San Pellegrino Aqua Vera, a Nestlé Waters bottled -water company.
This installation allowed us to reduce energy consumption by almost 19 percent and increase production capacity on a number of products by at least 12 percent, said Massimo Angelini, plant manager at San Pellegrino.
