Packaging Solutions Holdings Inc. of New York will build a plant in the Midwest although the location has not been decided.
The plant is set to open in mid-2011 and will make packaging and pouch materials for cheese, pet food, produce, snack foods and medical devices, according to a news release from Packaging Solutions. That firm recently was formed by New York private equity firm Wellspring Capital Management LLC and former Pliant Corp. CEO Harold Bevis.
The plant will be equipped with new tandem-head, multilayer extrusion laminating equipment being custom-built by Davis-Standard LLC; quick-change, 10-color printing presses; high-speed winding equipment; and laser-scoring and perforating equipment.
It will be part of flexible packaging maker Jen-Coat Inc., the Westfield, Mass.-based subsidiary of Packaging Solutions that Wellspring bought in August. It will serve Jen-Coat customers in the Midwest, West and Southwest, and in western Canada.
The additional new plant and equipment are a critical next step in our plan to lead the industry for extrusion laminating and printing, said Jen-Coat President Jim Kauffman. We are also adding new commercial and technical personnel to our team to deepen our innovation programs and to penetrate new markets.
