Plastic Logic Inc. will build its second manufacturing plant for plastic electronic displays in Russia, as part of an agreement with Russian Corp. of Nanotechnologies (Rusnano).
Plastic Logic said Nov. 9 that it will maintain its existing factory in Dresden, Germany, as well as a research and development facility in Cambridge, England, and its headquarters in Mountain View.
The production facility for the next generation of plastic displays will become the first step to establish the new branch of an electronics industry in Russia, Rusnano Managing Director Georgy Kolpachev said in a news release.
Plastic Logic had announced in August that it was canceling its QUE e-reader product, which was supposed to compete with the iPad, Kindle and other such products. At the time, the firm said it still plans to introduce a second-generation ProReader e-reader.
Since then, there was speculation in financial circles that Rusnano would provide Plastic Logic with a capital infusion.
Plastic Logic was founded by researchers from Cambridge University's Cavendish Laboratory.
