German designer Konstantine Grcic, who made the pages of Plastics News a few years ago for his work on the Myto cantilever chair made of plastic, was named designer of the year at DesignMiami this week. The New York Times posted a Q&A interview with Grcic this week, noting that the honor was a surprise -- most previous winners were artists, while he is "known for his rigorous focus on logic, utility and simplicity." PN readers may recall that Grcic worked with BASF AG on the Myto chair, which featured a then-new high-speed version of its Ultradur polybutylene terephthalate resin. For background on that project, check out staff reporter Rhoda Miel's story.
