The Project Krypton Technology Preview is not Lex Luthor's latest plan to beat Superman — it's a plug-in software from Autodesk Inc. that gives designers advice in the early stages of designing plastic parts.
The Krypton preview is available for download on Autodesk Labs for a free preview. Krypton technology integrates with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Inventor LT software. It also works with SolidWorks software.
Krypton gives designers real-time feedback in manufacturability, cost efficiency and the environmental impact of the product, including recyclability, embodied carbon and embodied energy.
In other news, hot-runner maker Synventive Molding Solutions Inc. of Peabody, Mass., has expanded its use of Autodesk Moldflow Insight computer-aided-engineering software, to get a higher level of accuracy for Synventive's customized injection molding applications.
Synventive's 120 engineers can apply “what if” scenarios to predict performance before production begins.
Insight also gives Synventive faster design and production times. For example, Synventive was able to deliver several highly customized hot-runner systems for a major automotive molder in less than four weeks.
Autodesk Inc. is headquartered in San Rafael, Calif.
