Polyshot Corp., a hot-runner maker, has installed an enterprise resource planning system that schedules, tracks and maximizes production operations.
Lansend Inc. of New York custom made the Factory Floor Management System for Polyshot.
Officials of the company in West Henrietta, N.Y., moved to the one-of-a-kind ERP system after re-examining the floor management system in response to customer complaints of late deliveries. Polyshot lacked an effective way to track progress of production, relying mostly on one person to oversee work flow and scheduling.
The new system, installed in April, replaces a manual tracking system on a computer spread sheet that contained minimal detailed information. The Lansend ERP uses several modules that schedule and track every piece of steel that goes through the manufacturing process, from order entry to final assembly. All manufacturing employees have access via Web browser on a networked workstation, and they are responsible for continuously updating the status of their work.
A screen called Project Dashboard displays all the data, and offers a quick update of the progress of each job, at each manufacturing step. It refreshes every 15 minutes.
