After three years of development, Danish auxiliary equipment maker Labotek A/S introduced the Gravi-Dryer, a gravimetric drying system hopper.
The dryer's accuracy is plus or minus 0.5 percent, giving full control and tracking history of material consumption for each drying hopper. It ramps the airflow up and down according to the actual consumption, so you use only the energy required to dry the material you are using, said sales manager Thomas Ringheim.
Gravi-Dryer stores the consumption of each material, and of each processing machine, and the information can be easily retrieved, Labotek said.
Any material that is lost in weight, gets replenished right away, Ringheim said. The filling of a drying hopper during the “ramp up” method eliminates the risk of over-drying the material.
The filling of each Gravi-Dryer is fully automated, and adjusted according to material usage, with no need for any manual operation.
Ringheim said plastics processors are serious about lowering energy costs.
“The trends are definitely moving in the direction when you have to measure what was sent to the system compared to what you consume,” he said at K 2010.
