Alliance Polymers & Services LLC is adding a pair of compounding lines at its distribution site in Romulus, Mich.
Two twin-screw lines should be up and running by the end of April, Alliance principal Stephane Morin said in a Feb. 18 phone interview. The additional service will create six new jobs.
The lines will allow Romulus-based Alliance to offer toll compounding of the two thermoplastic polyurethane products that it distributes for BASF Corp. and Polymax Elastomer Technology Co. Ltd. Morin said that he expects most of the compounds made by Alliance will be based on Polymax's Maxelast-brand TPU.
This is an added benefit that we can offer customers if they want something slightly different than a vanilla grade, Morin said of the project, which represents an investment of about $1 million. We had been asked many, many times for our customers to provide this, so it's a logical next step.
Alliance was founded in 2009 by Morin and Roger Huarng, both of whom had extensive experience with TPUs while at BASF. Ron Sheu, another BASF veteran, joined Alliance as a principal last month.
