NS Technologies Group Inc. has expanded its thermoforming capacity by acquiring Alvac Plastics Inc.
Alvac has unique capabilities we didn't have, said NS sales manager Laurence Goddard in a telephone interview. The purchase was effective Feb. 11.
Alvac is a thin-sheet former in Cobourg, Ontario. NS does heavy-sheet thermoforming at its head plant in Milton. Alvac can make sheet products as large as 9 feet by 5 feet and runs three machines; NS has 12 lines.
NS' thermoforming markets include heavy equipment and medical. Alvac makes custom products such as housings, trays and packaging as well as proprietary products like slip sheets and skids.
The deal is the second for NS since November, when it bought injection molder Mitech Ignition of Welland, Ontario. Now NS does thermoforming and rotational molding in Milton, and injection molding in Bolton and Whitby, Ontario.
NS, which employs about 140, bought Alvac from Drew Carew.
