Rick Shaffer, the former top executive of Netstal Machinery Inc., has started his own consulting firm called InterTech Rx LLC, initially focusing on machinery for closures and packaging-related technology and products.
Shaffer speaks fluent German and intends to provide services to machinery companies, primarily in German-speaking countries, that want to become active in North America. Those services include product analysis, North American sales potential and evaluation of sales and distribution methods. Shaffer said projects can include forming and implementing strategic plans.
InterTech Rx, in Lancaster, Mass., is starting off in the closure and packaging markets, but Shaffer said he will not limit the firm's activities to those segments in the future. He also wants to work with plastics processors, helping them evaluate new closures and packaging.
Shaffer left Netstal Machinery at the end of 2010. He had been president and general manager of the U.S. operation of Swiss injection molding press maker Netstal-Maschinen AG. Before joining Netstal, he was vice president and general manager of Demag Ergotech USA.
