Custom extruder Pexco LLC now has two plants in Mexico, after buying Multitube Medical Devices SA de CV in Mexicali.
Terms were not disclosed for the deal, announced May 13.
Multitube specializes in custom extrusion for the medical-device, health and safety, and consumer-product markets. It serves customers in the greater Mexicali and Tijuana region of northwest Mexico, in the maquiladora region across the border from San Diego.
The 17,500-square-foot Multitube plant employs about 40 people running 10 extrusion lines. The building includes a Class 100,000 clean room. According to Multitube's website, all production lines have laser sensors.
Pexco first expanded into Mexico in 2000 by opening a plant in Monterrey. That operation, which also has a clean room, serves the lighting and medical markets.
This acquisition fulfills both strategic and geographical purposes for our organization, Neil Shillingford, Pexco's CEO, said in a news release.
Richard Brooks, Pexco's vice president of sales and marketing for medical, said the Mexicali plant has a range of technology, including multilumen tubing, para-tubing, coextrusion, wire-encapsulation tubing and microbore tubing.
Multitube, which began its operations in 2002, was founded by a group of Mexican entrepreneurs.
Shillingford said Pexco is seeking to grow internally and through acquisitions, in custom profile and tubing extrusion.
In April, Pexco purchased Patrician Products Inc., an extruder of plastic landscape edging in Hicksville, N.Y.
