Jones Plastic && Engineering marks 50 years
Jones Plastic & Engineering Co. LLC is marking the 50th anniversary of a company that that grew from a one-machine shop to a global company with 2,400 employees and customers in the appliance and auto industries. Twin brothers Larry and Harry Jones were both also former star players for the University of Kentucky football team under Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant -- Harry Jones wore jersey number 1A, Larry number 1B -- and launched the injection molding business in 1961 in Louisville, Ky. The firm's first business was making caps for the whiskey industry. Since then, the company has gained expertise in gas assist molding, high speed production and automation while expanding over the years to additional sites in Tennessee and Mexico. Jones Plastic also grew through acquisitions, buying a division of Ajax Hardware in 1978 and established the Rev-A-Shelf subsidiary in the 1980s.
