Plastics News has bolstered its staff with the addition two new hires in its Internet and marketing departments.
David Irvin joins as manager of digital strategy and development for Plastics News Global Group, and Kristy Kohler is PN's new promotion coordinator. Both will work out of the publication's Akron headquarters.
Irvin has been online special projects editor at The Repository daily newspaper in Canton, Ohio, since May 2006. While there he helped develop new processes for digital content streams, managed special projects and daily content production for several websites, developed the paper's social media strategy and served as a videographer and copy editor and writer of online content.
From 2003-05, Irvin served as an academic adviser and graduate assistant at Kent State University's School of Journalism & Mass Communication, achieving a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while earning his master's degree there.
From 1999-2003 the Wooster, Ohio, native served as chief in-house Web designer and technical support person for FJ Designs Inc., which operates a retail e-commerce site for collectibles.
For the PN Global Group, Irvin will provide strategic direction related to branding, design and monetization of all of the group's news and event websites, as well as its multiple e-newsletters and various digital products, while furthering its social media and e-commerce efforts.
Kohler, meanwhile, joins the Plastics News marketing department as promotion coordinator from Visualizations Photography Inc. in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where she developed and designed the company's marketing materials and managed its social media network.
Kohler graduated in May 2010 from the University of Akron with a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design. In her position as promotion coordinator, she will focus on producing conference marketing materials for use in print, online and on-site at PN's various events.
