Radio Frequency Co. of Millis, Mass., has introduced a preheating system for sheet molding compound that uses radio-frequency-heating technology called Macrowave.
The company claims the system enhances the distribution of reinforcement fibers in the molding process, improving product quality and strength, and cutting cure time in half. RF heating is especially effective for thicker bosses and structures.
Macrowave can preheat SMC up to 30 inches wide by 84 inches long in less than 1 minute. A controller runs the heat-cycle time, power level and conveyor movement to synchronize with the press operation.
Radio Frequency has priced the Macrowave at $95,000 and up.
