ROCHESTER, MICH. (July 27, 12 p.m. ET) — Injection molder Letica Corp. plans to offer a line of cold beverage cups and lids and thin-wall food containers made with additives that facilitate biodegradation in biologically active landfills.
Letica signed an agreement with additive supplier EcoLogic LLC of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., to use Eco-One additives.
According to EcoLogic, Letica also will use the additive in large rigid plastic containers that the Rochester-based company offers through its rigid products division.
According to EcoLogic, products made with Eco-One will biodegrade in biologically active landfills, in accordance with ASTM D5511.
“With over 90 percent of plastic products ultimately ending up in landfills, it is evident that packaging suppliers and consumer goods companies need to look beyond just the recycling process and support waste alternatives that help decrease our impact on the earth and the limited resources we have,” said Jim Rooney, president of EcoLogic, in a news release.
