MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO (July 29, 12:15 p.m. ET) — Film machinery maker Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. is opening a branch company in Italy called Macro Engineering & Technology srl.
Mississauga-based Macro opened the Milan facility to boost sales and service to customers in Europe and the Middle East.
Macro officials had been close to buying an unidentified Italian machinery manufacturer, the company said in a July 28 news release announcing the move. “Negotiations in the acquisition broke down as a result of administrative obstacles and the establishment of Macro srl was deemed to be the more favorable option.”
Macro said the Italian facility will be fully operational in October.
The company hired Franco Capetti, who was technical director of Italian film equipment producer Tecno Coating Engineering srl for the past 13 years. At Macro, Capetti is providing technical expertise and will guide the development of the Italian branch. Macro plans to hire more staff there.
Macro makes blown film equipment, cast film lines, sheet extrusion lines and coating and lamination lines.
