Film machinery maker Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. is opening a branch in Italy called Macro Engineering & Technology srl.
Mississauga-based Macro opened the Milan facility to boost sales and service to customers in Europe and the Middle East.
Macro had been close to buying an unidentified Italian machinery maker, the firm said in a July 28 news release. “Negotiations in the acquisition broke down as a result of administrative obstacles and the establishment of Macro srl was deemed to be the more favorable option,” the release said.
The site will launch in October.
The firm hired Franco Capetti, who was technical director of Italian film equipment producer Tecno Coating Engineering srl for the past 13 years.
Capetti will provide technical expertise and guide the development of Macro's Italian branch, which plans to hire more staff.
Macro makes blown and cast film equipment, sheet extrusion and coating and lamination lines.
