BREA, CALIF. (Aug. 2, 10:25 a.m. ET) — Con-Tech Plastics of Brea invested nearly $300,000 for a Class 100,000 clean room and an electric, 110-ton, Toshiba injection molding machine.
Huntair Inc. of Tualatin, Ore., installed the 525-square-foot, Servicor-brand modular clean room, which enables Con-Tech to pursue additional medical business, said President Ralph Riehl.
The Toshiba EC110 and a 175-ton Engel hydraulic press operate in the clean room, which was certified in February 2010.
“We took on new products with the advent of the clean room,” said Vern Meurer, vice president. Those included a clean room-assembled breath analyzer and a sleep apnea unit.
“We are looking at some prescription packaging that would involve green materials, specifically” polylactic acid, he said.
Prior to its clean room era, Con-Tech was molding some disposable medical products as well as housings and components for heart-treatment equipment.
Con-Tech employs 40, occupies 26,000 square feet and had sales of $3.5 million for the fiscal year ended March 31.
