ANN ARBOR, MICH. (Aug. 4, 11:50 p.m. ET) — Amcor Rigid Plastics of Ann Arbor will shutter its plant in Cinnaminson, N.J., by the end of the year. Amcor acquired the facility in 2010 when it bought Ball Corp.'s plastic packaging operations in the Americas.
The 450,000-square-foot site is located in Delran Township. Delran's Mayor Ken Paris said the closing caught him and the township by surprise.
“It was a surprise,” Paris said in an Aug. 4 telephone interview. “But we're going to reach out to try to keep them open. For Delran and surrounding communities, the workforce is the heart of our town. I am going to reach out as soon as possible.”
The operation employs 180. In a news release, Amcor officials said the facility will close due to industry moves by major customers into self-manufacturing of blow molded beverage containers. The timing of the closing will depend on meeting customers' requirements. Plans are in place to provide uninterrupted supply and continued service to customers in the Northeast region.
