AURORA, OHIO (Aug. 10, 4:15 p.m. ET) — Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has an agreement to buy the Bekaert Specialty Films business of NV Bekaert SA of Kortrijk, Belgium.
The films business, which operates as Solar Gard, has plants in San Diego and Zulte, Belgium, and working on a footprint in China. It posted 2010 sales of $150 million.
Solar Gard makes coated films used in homes and commercial building, automotive and industrial applications. These include solar control films that reduce energy consumption, in addition to tinted films and security films.
Aurora-based Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics said the deal fits into its strategy to stress the “sustainable habitat” market.
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has 4,400 employees in 15 countries, and makes films, foams, coated fabrics, bearings, seals and fluid systems. The company is a unit of Paris-based Cie de Saint-Gobain.
