TROISDORF, GERMANY (Aug. 22, 1:45 p.m. ET) — European window profile producer Profine International Profile Group GmbH has purchased another Krauss Maffei Berstorff extruder after its initial 2010 order for a “piggybacked” combination of a twin-screw extruder and two conical co-extruders.
The follow-on order includes seven stand-alone KMD 63 K/P conical twin screw co-extruders which will be used with extruders already installed at the Pirmasens and Berlin profiles plants of Troisdorf, Germany-based Profine.
Profine was attracted by what it considers the compact, flexible features of the new co-extrusion machinery for a range of different applications.
“These extremely compact machines are ideal for processing a wide range of profile formulations from low cost to high value,” said Profine technical manager Jens Münchow.
“The compact machines save expensive production floor space, they can be altered and adjusted quickly and allow flexible injection from various positions relative to the main extruder,” he added.
The Krauss Maffei Berstorff equipment offers a special screw concept that enables profile extruders to process either virgin PVC or recyclates and highly filled formulations. Recyclates are being used increasingly to form the core layer of profiles to save cost and consumption of resources.
Conical model extruders from KM Berstorff offer high wear resistance thanks to the use of special molybdenum welding techniques, explained the Munich, Germany-based equipment supplier.
Profine's earlier order last year comprised a KMD 63 K/P conical twin-screw extruder as the co-extruder in the ‘piggyback' configuration above a KMD 114-32/P parallel twin-screw extruder.
Profine, formed in 2003 after HT Troisdorf consolidated its profile activities under one roof, has other European plants in Italy, France, Spain, Russia and the Ukraine. In addition, it runs a production unit in Tianjin, China and in Huntsville, Ala.
Overall it employs 3,200 and recorded 2010 sales of 696 million euros.
