ST. LOUIS (Sept. 2, 1:15 p.m. ET) — Aiming to support regional growth in mobile electronics and smart window markets, Solutia Inc. has acquired additional capacity for its high-tech conductive film manufacturing operation in Asia through a $3.4 million acquisition from glass and film manufacturer Aimcore Techonology Co. Ltd. in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
The St. Louis-based company had said March 24 that it had entered into an agreement to buy selected assets of Aimcore for about $7 million.
The additional capacity, which is scheduled to come on line by the fourth quarter in Taiwan, will “significantly” expand the production of Solutia's Flexvue film components and position the company to supply customers in the region, according to a news release.
Flexvue films are used in touch screens, solar applications, smart windows and e-readers.
Solutia's film business also bought Singapore-based window film marketing and distribution firm in 2010.
“The continuing expansion of the company's film manufacturing operations has positioned Solutia with the reach and capacity to serve a diverse set of high-growth global niche markets,” said Craig Ivey, president and general manager of Solutia's Performance Films division.
