Synventive Molding Solutions Inc. has rolled out a line of hot runners specifically designed for automotive lighting, such as molding of lenses.
The valve-gate “plug-and-play” systems use Synventive's threaded, screw-in nozzles with pneumatic cylinders. Using threaded nozzles eliminates the need for the support/center rings at the nozzle head are preventing any heat release where the melt changes direction from runner to nozzle.
Synventive, of Peabody, Mass., developed special gate geometries and tip materials for the application and lens materials. For rear-light lenses with three-dimensional surfaces and multiple colors, the company offers direct gating onto the lens surface, which are normally molded from acrylic. On a recent front-lens application for a global molder, Synventive provided a hot runner gated directly gated onto the clear polycarbonate lens at a non-visible part section.
