ROGERSVILLE, MO. (Sept. 16, 12:15 p.m. ET) — Undercover Inc., a maker of ABS thermoformed truck bed covers and accessories, is near completion on a $5.5 million expansion that will allow the company to offer its products with a Class A painted finish.
The 70,000-square foot addition to its existing site in Rogersville, Mo., houses a fully integrated painting operation, said Jason Hutchens, Undercover's marketing director, in a Sept. 16 telephone interview. Its existing building with thermoforming operations, assembly, shipping and receiving is sized 120,000 square feet.
When the company began operations in 2001, its covers were offered in a textured black finish. In 2009, the company released its Undercover SE Smooth as a ready-to-paint product. The company would then ship products to dealers who would perform the painting.
“We've been working on the ability to paint them for the last four years,” Hutchens said of the accomplishment, which included significant investment in tooling. Now, the company is able to offer a Class A automotive paint finish.
The expansion also means Undercover will add about 30 workers, an increase of 30 percent to its employee base.
“We are about 95 percent complete,” he said. “We expect to be shipping to our distributors in early November.”
