ELGIN, ILL. (Oct. 4, 2:45 p.m. ET) — Plasmatreat North America has acquired the Belmont, Calif.-based PTS Plasma Technology Systems LLC, following a five-year business relationship between the two plasma surface treatment companies.
Terms were not disclosed.
Plasmatreat North America in Elgin is the U.S. head office and technical center of Plasmatreat GmbH of Steinhagen, Germany.
The deal brings together two technologies in plasma treatment, a process used for surface modification prior to bonding, printing or painting processes involving plastics, composites, metals and glass. Plasmatreat specializes in atmospheric plasma treatment. PTS Plasma Technology Systems focuses on low-pressure plasma.
PTS was founded in 1999 by Stephen Kaplan, a polymer chemist, and developed by Mikki Larner, the current vice president of sales and marketing. PTS will open a contract service facility in the Chicago area in 2012.
“Together, our team is able to leverage the respective technologies to provide the best solutions for customer applications,” said Andreas Stecher, Plasmatreat's North America president and CEO.
