Herbold Meckesheim USA of Smithfield, R.I., has developed a machine to remove wraparound PVC labels from PET bottles at recycling plants.
According to the company, removing and separating wraparound labels from bottles has been impossible at the prewash stages, and difficult and costly at later stages. In the machine, teh removal of labels and adhesives from bottlers happens through friction between exchangeable rip-off elements bolted to the rotor, and exchangeable pins fitted to stator elements. All the elements are made of special wear-resistant steel.
The chamber has no spaces where bottles can pass through without undergoing full frictonal contact. There are no surfaces to constrict the blow of bottles, reducing the change of damaging the bottles.
The new machine also separates bottles that are stuck together, reducing labor costs needed for hand separation.
