At an Oct. 4 open house at Gneuss Kunststofftechnik GmbH in Bad Oeynhausen, Germany, visitors saw a demonstration of dryerless PET sheet extrusion, in a collaboration between Gneuss, Davis-Standard LLC, Extrusion Die Industries LLC and Scantech SAS.
The demonstration was part of the International Recycled Polyester Forum, held Oct. 4-5 and organized by Gneuss and Dr. Thiele Polyester Technology.
The Davis-Standard sheet line is on consignment to Gneuss to expand Davis-Standard's non-dried PET sheet extrusion throughout Europe, Russia and the Middle East. The equipment is available for customer trials.
The sheet line includes a Gneuss MRS 90 extruder and rotary melt filtration with a Gneuss online viscometer, an EDI flexible-lip sheet die with a 27-inch width, an XP-Express PS Series roll stand with individually driven rolls, antistatic solution roll coater and turret winder, with a maximum web width of 36 inches.
Davis-Standard of Pawcatuck, Conn., has collaborated with Gneuss on non-dried PET technology since 2007. The MRS extruder has a larger degassing section to efficiently remove moisture and volatiles from the melt stream, according to the company.
