EVANSVILLE, IND. (Nov. 7, 3:30 p.m. ET) – Berry Plastics Corp. plans to close a former Captive Plastics plant in Henrico, Va., near Richmond.
The Evansville-based packaging company filed a layoff notice with the state of Virginia on Oct. 28, disclosing plans to close the plant by Jan. 1. The plant employs 123, according to the notice.
Berry bought Captive Plastics in late 2007.
“In this uncertain economic environment, an in-depth review of our business determined this step is necessary,” Curt Begle, president of Berry's rigid closed-top business, said in a statement quoted by RichmondBizSense.com.
In October, Berry announced that it will close its Madisonville, Ky., closures plant in the first quarter of 2012, affecting 124 employees. That plant was formerly part of Rexam plc.
