ST. LOUIS (Nov. 18, 12:30 p.m. ET) — Carbon fiber manufacturer Zoltek Corp. has opened a 135,000-square-foot prepreg manufacturing plant and technical center in St. Louis.
The company said the move will help meet demand for low-cost materials from industrial applications like wind energy.
“Unfortunately, the current carbon fiber prepreg supply is fragmented and geared towards aerospace markets rather than industrial use,” said CEO Zsolt Rumy, in a news release. “We are addressing this shortfall by consolidating the supply chain and forward integrating into prepreg manufacturing for select industrial applications.”
The new technical center will target applications wind energy and automotive applications for carbon fiber.
Zoltek also has carbon fiber manufacturing facilities in Hungary, Mexico, and Texas.
