Tamko Building Products Inc. — which manufactures EverGrain, the industry's only compression molded composite deck board — is planning to introduce a new compression molded deck board that is capped on three sides, sources said at Deck Expo in Chicago.
But that's not the only new deck board innovation that will shortly hit the market.
Composite decking maker Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc. said at the Oct. 12-14 show that it will unveil a prototype of NanoShield, the industry's first composite board that incorporates nanotechnology, at the International Builders' Show, Feb. 8-10 in Orlando.
The new Tamko deck board also is expected to be introduced at the upcoming IBS, though the Joplin, Mo.-based firm would not confirm that. Tamko's compression molding process gives the deck board a deeper grain and texture than composite boards that are injection molded, industry experts said.
Steve van Kouteren, partner with Principia Consulting LLC of Exton, Pa., said AERT's NanoShield, which will hit the market in the second quarter of 2012, could have a big impact, as consumers continue to look for the best ultralow-maintenance composite or cellular PVC product.
“If this technology works and they put it out at the right price point, I think they've got something,” van Kouteren said.
Other products introduced at Deck Expo or the collocated Remodeling Show, include:
* From Tapco Group of Wixom, Mich., an exterior PVC siding — called Foundry Brick — that is cast in a brick pattern and comes in four colors. Tapco says Foundry Brick vinyl siding costs roughly 50 percent less than brick veneer and can be installed for as little as one-third the cost. The siding is made by Tapco's Mid-America Siding Components unit.
* Inteplast Group Ltd.'s new Tuf board siding, being coextruded at a new plant at the Livingston, N.J.-based firm's eight-plant complex in Lolita, Texas.
In other decking news, wood-plastic composite decking maker Trex Co. has introduced a high-performance line, Trex Enhance, which is positioned between its premium Trex Transcend and its Trex Accents lines.
