ROCK HILL, S.C. (Nov. 21, 2:10 p.m. ET) — Rapid prototyping and parts manufacturing company 3D Systems Corp. has purchased Z Corp., a Burlington, Mass., company that specializes in multi-color inkjet 3D printing.
The deal is part of a wider agreement in which Contex Group, a subsidiary of Ratos AB, is selling its Z Corp. and VIDAR Systems units to 3D Systems for $137 million in cash. The deal is scheduled to close in late 2011 or early 2012, according to a news release from Z Corp.
“We intend to make multi-color 3D printing accessible to far more designers,” Z Corp. CEO John Kawola said in the release.
