STP Rotomachinery Inc. of Sherbrooke, Quebec, introduced what it claims is the first three-sided shuttle rotational molding machine — giving more flexibility.
The large shuttle machine has a spherical diameter of 256 inches.
STP introduced the machine at the Association of Rotational Molders' Rotoplas'11 conference, Nov. 1-3 in Rosemont, Ill.
There is no need to interrupt regular production when changing molds on am arm, or testing a brand new mold, because one of the three arms can easily be reserved for such needs, according to STP. Also, the shuttle machine does not have to follow the same production sequence all the time. Parts of different shape, size and wall thickness never have to wait for an arm that requires more time for heating, cooling or loading/unloading.
STP will offer the complete range of three-sided shuttles with spherical diameters from 84 inches to 296 inches. Customers can order the shuttle first with two arms, and then add the third arm if a pater date. By using one of the machine's unique L-shaped configurations, the machine can fit into a corner of a rotomolding factory.
