The Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association and its members have long been trying to get people to pay attention to the decaying water infrastructure. Now they're trying a new approach. The group is encouraging its 9,000+ Facebook followers to shoot pictures of water main breaks or repairs in their local communities and submit them as contest entries to win an iPad. The goal is to create more awareness of our nation's decaying water infrastructure. According to Uni-Bell:
- More than 850 water main breaks happen each day in North America, the majority from corrosion-prone iron pipes.
- The corrosion epidemic costs U.S. drinking water and wastewater systems more than $50.7 billion annually.
